Most schools participate in the National School Lunch Program, School Breakfast Program and the After School Snack Program. These programs are administered by MDE on behalf of the USDA. When a school decides to contract their meal service, not only must the school comply with federal and state procurement standards but must also provide MDE with specific information at certain times during the procurement process in order to comply with the USDA's school meal program.
