This session is intended to cover new topics in school district accounting and auditing including the implementation of GASB Statements on fiduciary funds, student activities, and leases.
Constructive receipt is nothing new for MN Schools, but there is a new round of increased investigations that public sector employers, including MN Schools, need to watch. How you allow unused paid time (e.g., PTO, sick leave, vacation) to be used by your employees is an area that has again caught the attention of the IRS. And why not? In many respects it is the proverbial “low hanging fruit.” With respect to unused paid time: Do you allow rollover and/or cash out? Do you require rollover and/or cash out? Is cash out available annually and/or upon termination of employment? Does the employee have a choice? If you offer an unused paid time cash out feature or have been thinking about adding it, you need to attend this workshop!
A good understanding of anticipated year end results is vital to effective financial planning for a school district. The annual audit should not present surprising results. Monthly tracking of the budget provides a good understanding of the anticipated year-end financial position of the district and sets the stage for meaningful dialogue about the financial future of the school district. This session will present ways to track budget performance to effectively predict year end fund balances
The Bounce Back Project promotes health through happiness by reminding everyone of resiliency tools that are quick and easy to use. Research shows that using these simple tools can help us retrain our mind to focus on the positive and can increase feelings of well-being and decrease feelings of depression. These tools can also open us to the possibility of greater social connections, improved sleep, enhanced memory and stronger immune system function. Anyone can use these tools to make a difference in their life. In a world faced with many challenges, getting back to the basics can be very helpful!
